Scorpio New Moon

Hello Moonbabes,
Welcome to Saturn’s Day, our day of the week for responsibilities and organization. We’re vibrating at a 2 today, so our intuitions are heightened and we’re able to achieve greater balance within our relationships. Mother Moon is currently in the Fixed Water sign of the Zodiac, Scorpio, where she will be until Sunday morning at 11:46 AM when she evolves into her Mutable Fire, Sagittarius archetype.
The Zodiac is composed of 3 Modes and 4 Elements, and each archetype (sign) is a combination of each. To better understand the signs, I highly recommend becoming familiar with their Mode (expression) + Element (motivation.)
The modes of expression are Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable.
The Cardinal signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, initiate + begin. Each one begins a season - Aries, Spring; Cancer, Summer; Libra, Fall; Capricorn, Winter. Their energetic force can be likened to the beginning stages of each season. They can be described as domineering and goal-driven. What emotions (and think holidays) come up at the beginning of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter?
The Fixed signs, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, preserve + sustain the seasons. The Fixed signs take the action that was started by the Cardinal signs and sees through to their completion. Taurus builds gardens for the new spring growth, Leo provides the energy for flowers to bloom and plants to ripen, Scorpio drops the temperature + darkens the days to give the energy back to the Earth, and Aquarius focuses on networks for winter survival. Fixed signs can be described as magnetic and controlling - it is difficult to get them to shift courses once they are already going. Their center is strong.
The Mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces, disperse + adapt the energy to shift into a new season. It’s like they have one foot in their season and another in the next season, and as such they can be quite scattered, but highly intellectual - they stay on their toes, ready for change. Versatile + flexible. Gemini ends Spring, Virgo ends Summer, Sagittarius ends Fall, and Pisces ends Winter. This is also the time period when wardrobes change - ex. it begins to thaw during Pisces season and we can sometimes get away with wearing a t-shirt or turning the heat down.
The elements of motivation are Fire, Earth, Air, and Water.
The Fire signs, Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, are pure energy - these signs represent our life-force and optimism. They are our spirit, our courage, and our willingness to act.
The Earth signs, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, crystallize the spirit into matter, and form a connection to the material/physical world. They are concerned with practicality, utilization, and productivity.
The Air signs, Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, observe and detach from the ego to gain a better understanding of situations and learn cooperation. They are concerned with the social aspect of life - they give us logic and the ability to rationalize.
The Water signs, Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, connect, blend, and absorb their surroundings. They are sensitive and responsive to stimuli. These signs are associated with the unconscious and where the past is stored, so they can be very sentimental and reflective...sometimes getting lost in memories and emotions from the past. “Water has memory. The water that makes up you and me, has passed through at least four humans, and, or animals, before us.” - Olaf, Frozen 2 (one of my favorite movies!)
It has been awhile since I’ve sat down and written an update like this. Mars has been in Aries since the end of June, and my Sun is in Aries, so this transit has been acutely activating my identity. I feel like I have tried on multiple different identities since this transit began - I’ve re-organized quite a bit, and I’ve expanded my offerings - but it has been a whole lot of ACTION. And as much as I do enjoy making videos for you, I have definitely been missing my writing time. So, let’s talk about this Scorpio New Moon happening very early Sunday morning (or Saturday night, depending on where you are in the world.)
This Scorpio New Moon is occurring at 23 degrees of Scorpio - the New Moon is a time for planting seeds of intention - of ACTION. The New Moon is the Aries energy of every moon cycle - it’s a time for new beginnings, fresh ideas, and high energy. What do Aries + Scorpio have in common? Well, not much, actually. They share planetary rulers - the Exoteric ruler of Aries is Mars, and the Esoteric ruler of Scorpio is Mars. But other than that, they are very different energies. Aries - Cardinal Fire, yang, personal; Scorpio Fixed Water, yin, social. Aries to Scorpio, on the Zodiac wheel, form a 150 degree angle, a quincunx aspect - whenever you hear 150 degree or quincunx when it comes to astrology and transits, think “AWKWARD.” These signs are not seeing each other clearly or connecting smoothly. There is a sense of contradiction between them, and there is a problem that must be solved. So, when it comes to a Scorpio New Moon, we know there is a contradiction inherent in this Moon cycle. We are planting seeds of intention by eliminating and integrating that which cannot be eliminated. We’re initiating by looking within, uncovering hidden aspects of our personality or associations, and merging opposing forces. We’re energizing through the process of death + rebirth. Aries is all about LIFE, and Scorpio is all about DEATH...though, through wisdom we know we cannot have one without the other. The Scorpio New Moon affirmation may very well be, “To live, I must die.”
This New Moon is getting a boost of inspiration, optimism, and perception - both the Sun and Moon will be forming a nearly exact sextile to Jupiter and Pallas Athene in Capricorn, with Pluto and Saturn close by, also in Capricorn. A sextile is a 60 degree angle formed between two celestial bodies; it’s effects are energizing and cooperative - these two bodies can learn something from one another and be stimulated. This angle is associated with the relationship between Aries + Gemini, and the waxing crescent phase of the moon cycle. Jupiter, the gaseous giant that is one out of two of our social planets, the other being Saturn, is an agent of truth and justice. Jupiter brings us hope and the belief in something bigger and better. Pallas Athene, one of the Goddess asteroids linking the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, bridging the gap between the individual and collective realms, is an agent of perception and pattern recognition. Pallas Athene brings us strategy that comes from wisdom. Both Jupiter + Pallas are associated with wisdom, though, Jupiter is masculine wisdom, whereas Pallas is the feminine wisdom. Side note: in mythology, Pallas is the daughter of Jupiter.
The integration/elimination process occurring during this New Moon cycle will be influenced by the masculine + feminine wisdom (yang/yin; action/inaction) within our structures, institutions, and authority figures. The reality that we’ve eliminated an authority figure, and elected a man and woman to represent the United States fits with the cosmic weather. As above, so below.
So, as we integrate or eliminate this moon cycle, we’re energized by the faith in our strategies - we can accomplish all that we wish to do, we just need to remove all that is unnecessary and in excess, and plan our resurrection - we’re so much wiser now than we were in January. We’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons and found the cracks in our foundations this year. But there is still so much to learn - and we’re getting an opportunity to learn from our elders or from those with the authority. This may mean you’ll be communicating with those in power or forming a closer relationship to power or authority. Possibly asking those in power to be held accountable for their decaying structures.
Mars has stationed direct in Aries after being retrograde since September 9th, so we also have the bold + assertive energy to move ahead with our goals. I recommend taking it in stride as best as you possibly can! Mars in Aries is competitive and restless. Try not to lose your head with all the eliminating and transforming! Keep your anger in check. Workout regularly to combat the rising tension.
