Scorpio Lunar Eclipse - May 2022

Scorpio Lunar Eclipse - May 2022

Scorpio Lunar Eclipse:

All of the past sh*t is coming up and it must be eliminated or integrated.

Scorpio is associated with crisis & healing - it is the archetype that is faced with challenging and intensely transformative experiences - and is willing to give up some aspect of comfort - aesthetically, financially, sexually, socially, morally - whatever it is, it doesn’t matter - to Scorpio, giving up comfort is an investment in their healing. Ultimately, Scorpio wants to feel whole. And they will do (or hide) anything that will result in a state (or perception) of wholeness. Individuals with strong Scorpio or 8th House placements know crisis, and the people around them do too.

And that’s where it gets hairy -
relationships are Scorpio’s lifeline - the archetype is fixated on fusing with “the other,” so long as that other person has something they want. Hypnosis is their specialty - they know they can put you under a spell - rewire your brain - transform your patterns - if they just play their cards right and keep a poker face. But what happens when they are dealt a bad hand? And instead of discarding what isn’t working, they hold onto the original cards because they formed an emotional connection with them, and they don’t trust that the new cards could be any better. The original cards they know, they understand, maybe one of them has a bent corner that no one else knows about. But now they aren’t even giving themselves a chance to win, so instead of playing them right, they decide to manipulate them - maybe Scorpio has an extra deck in their pocket and they pull out a Queen…maybe they have a marker and try to turn a three into an eight. They may be able to get away with it for a little while, and they may amass power and wealth, but eventually their dirty secrets will be exposed. All it takes is one person to catch them in the act and Scorpio might as well be dead.

That’s our Scorpio archetype - the side of us that can subtly manipulate situations by using hidden resources. We all have Scorpio in our charts regardless if we have any personal planets or points in Scorpio. One (or even two) house(s) out of the 12 in your natal chart are governed by Scorpio. Each house of the natal chart is representative of an area of the life experience - where you have Scorpio, those areas are your hidden resources and you guard them carefully, especially if those resources weren’t ethically obtained. Sagittarius, the archetype that is concerned with ethics, follows Scorpio for a reason.

I remember growing up, my mother used to always say there were two kinds of Scorpios - the eagle and the scorpion. The eagle, when faced with challenge, uses it’s strength to soar over them. The eagle can handle opposition, defeat, criticism - it will transmute any crisis into an opportunity to achieve healing through transmutation. The scorpion, on the other hand, reacts aggressively and underhandedly to challenge. The scorpion will be threatened by your opposition and criticism, and when you least expect it, it will stab you with poison, bringing you to your knees, maybe even killing you. I now understand this eagle vs. scorpion analogy to be describing the developed Scorpio (the eagle) and the undeveloped Scorpio (the scorpion.) Each archetype of the zodiac has a spectrum of expressions, but Scorpio has the most potential for murderous expressions…and that’s because an undeveloped Scorpio is terrified of their own death - and I don’t necessarily mean in a physical sense, but in a psychological sense.

The Scorpio poker player - they had the option to discard their useless cards, but they were too afraid of letting go of of their three because there was the possibility that they could be given a two…and that would have completely killed their chances of winning…so they held on tightly to the power that they did have, and played with dirty hands. For the undeveloped Scorpio poker player, there is nothing more terrifying than laying down a weak hand and acknowledging their defeat…they’d much rather keep secrets and give the illusion of being in control.

As I said earlier, relationships are extremely important to Scorpio - they may not have a big group of friends, but they always have at least one person they keep very close - this person may be their lover or best friend, or it may be someone who the undeveloped Scorpio perceives as weaker and easy to manipulate (who may also be their lover/best friend/business partner, etc.) The individual in the dynamic with less power isn’t likely to expose or question the motives of the one with more power, in fact, they may even assist an undeveloped Scorpio from facing any sort of judgment - these are the accomplices to crimes and the abuse enablers. And the thing is, Scorpio loses their power when they lose their relationships - when the accomplices snitch or the enablers walk away, it is over for Scorpio, they must face judgment and (a psychological) death.

Most likely you are familiar with the relationship dynamics I am describing, maybe you’ve been an accomplice, an enabler, or a scorpion, and maybe you are currently caught up in one of those dangerous dynamics. In fact, I believe we all are to some degree. For example, viruses are the domain of Scorpio - they secretly penetrate our environments, take control, mutate, and in some cases, cause death. Since we’re living during a deadly pandemic, each of us are accomplices in the spread of COVID. If you have socially engaged with others outside of your household without a mask on and/or you made the choice to not get vaccinated, you have enabled the virus to spread, and you have caused death. And that may be too difficult for some people to sit with, acknowledge and integrate - no one wants to think of themselves as a murderer…but the truth is, we all are on some level. We all have Scorpio somewhere in our charts. We all have been confronted with situations where we chose to sting rather than soar. Life is difficult, and especially when we’re first starting out - the first 50 years or so, we make a lot of decisions out of fear and we cause a lot of pain. That is normal human behavior, and it continues on right up until our death. No one is innocent. Everyone has secrets. But each encounter with another provides us with the opportunity to heal from our past. We don’t always have to sting, we can make the decision to soar or to cut our losses without resentment. When we change our patterns, we evolve, and when we evolve, we heal ourselves and we stop spreading pain.

This Scorpio Lunar Eclipse - South Node conjunct the Moon in Scorpio - is giving us a 6 month* window of time to change our dirty patterns of relating to others. So much Scorpio energy has been accumulated throughout the collective and now is our chance to make major releases and wash our hands. Scorpio governs over purification rituals - the process of eliminating toxins - pay close attention to the toxins you may be expelling out into the environment and try your best to clean up your act. Actually, forget trying, it is absolutely essential that you improve the situations that are within your control - Saturn in Aquarius is square this Lunar Eclipse, so the ones who are willing to take radical responsibility for the world by putting an end to the corruption and abuse they are accomplices to or perpetrators of, will find the greatest success.

*It actually may be more like 4 months. Pay attention to the events that come up in September.
