Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse - May 26, 2021

Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse - May 26, 2021

7:14 AM ☽ ☍ ☉ 5°26” Moon in Sagittarius opposite Sun in Gemini - LUNAR ECLIPSE -
Forgiving the Worldviews of the Past.
Super Flower Blood Moon.
Mercury + Venus, the exoteric + esoteric rulers of Gemini, respectively, OUT - OF - BOUNDS.
A Full Moon represents a culmination point - the cycle of growth that began on May 11th with the New Moon in Taurus has reached its maturation and you can see the situation more fully now that everything is illuminated, nothing is in the dark. The Sun (our will) opposes the Moon (our personal unconscious,) which triggers conflicts between these two parts of our psyche so that we may establish balance. Relationships are generally stressed; we need another to mirror back to us our internal states so we can make conscious adjustments.

Though, this Full Moon is different - it is a Lunar Eclipse, which occurs whenever the Full Moon is within 19° of the Lunar Nodal Axis. The Moon, who is normally brightly illuminated during a Full Moon, will be obscured by the Earth’s shadow. This Full Moon will be completely eclipsed and even turn red - the reddish glow is a phenomenon that occurs when the Sun’s light indirectly hits the surface of the Moon through the Earth’s atmosphere. The Moon will also appear larger than normal as it has reached its perigee (closest point of its orbit to Earth) hours prior to the exact opposition; this is what we call a “Super Moon.”

A Lunar Eclipse is treated differently than a Full Moon in astrology. It is highly discouraged to do ritual work during an Eclipse - both Solar and Lunar. The reason for this is that Eclipses are unstable - events and experiences are unpredictable and erratic around the time of eclipses because major revelations and endings occur that shift you onto your path. This could be a physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological shift, but it is likely to be intense and unforeseen. These shifts could be extreme - it depends on where you are along your evolutionary path. The energy surrounding an eclipse brings major turning points within your life story - a chapter is ending and another one is waiting to begin. So, attempting to do ritual work around the time of an Eclipse is pointless because your plans are likely to be interrupted.

I have found that the Eclipses that occur closest to my angles - the cusp of the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th Houses, have been the most disruptive, uprooting and emotional. The angles support the main structural integrity of your psyche. The AC-DC (ascendant/decendant) axis of the chart are like the beams of a structure - they hold weight and bridge areas together. The IC-MC (Imum Coeli and Midheaven) are like the columns of a structure - they also hold a lot of weight, but they lift structures up. So, if you have a Gemini or Sagittarius Rising or Midheaven, check to see if it is around 5° and occurring in your 1st/7th, 4th/10th houses. There are likely to be massive structural changes occurring for you. Of course, you should check to see if you have any points in Gemini or Sagittarius around this degree; you may not even need to check - if you’ve been feeling extra emotional, anxious and conflicted lately, chances are your soul is being triggered and you are likely being forced towards a new direction that is better aligned to support your evolutionary growth. The more you fight the shift, the more uncomfortable you may be. Stay aware of all that is occurring around you - reflect on all disruptive experiences - what are you being pushed towards?

This Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse is pushing us to collectively let go of sentimental connections surrounding our ideologies, beliefs, religions, and worldviews and grow towards becoming more adaptable and curious within our local environments. The Universe wants us to think locally at this time and to put aside our past differences - no matter where you may have originated, the fact is that you are here now, and you need to live within this space with others. Since the Moon is our connection to our past and the emotional conditioning that came from it, this Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse is associated with our past long-range and abstract visions. How you once saw the world and where you used to place your faith has been shifting since the North/South Nodes moved into Gemini/Sagittarius last spring. That is to be expected - if you have been noticing this in yourself, then you are on the Gemini North Node path. Though, we couldn’t have gotten to this point without our past experiences (Sagittarius.)

The polarity of Gemini - Sagittarius is concrete thinking (Gemini) vs. theoretical thinking (Sagittarius.) It is a spectrum of thinking and learning - Gemini handles the facts, and as a subject it would be associated with science, math and journalism. Sagittarius looks at the facts and finds the meaning within it; as a subject, Sagittarius would be associated with philosophy, ethics and marketing. It is through the facts that we are able to abstract meaning and expand our knowledge. Without a story (Gemini) we have no growth in our understanding of the world (Sagittarius.)

Gemini and Sagittarius share the same polarity - yang - and modality - mutable, as all opposing signs within the Zodiac do. As yang signs, they are extroverted - more concerned with the outer world and highly active, but they lack grounding and sensitivity. As mutable signs, they are flexible in their expressions and their energy shoots out in multiple directions, but they can be scattered and ambivalent. With the North Node in Gemini and the South Node in Sagittarius, we’ve all been more direct, but insensitive, more mental, but distracted. This Lunar Eclipse is helping you take stock of where you may be spreading yourself too much...where you may be experiencing a mental imbalance; where you may need to be more mindful and intentional. Mutable signs need direction - otherwise they can quickly burn themselves out following multiple paths. You may not find a clear direction with this Lunar Eclipse, but you will be given information that influences the directions you have been heading towards.
This Lunar Eclipse is forming a t-square with Jupiter in Pisces, meaning Jupiter is square both the Sun and the Moon, and is under intense stress. The focal planets of t-squares overfunction because they are working really hard to regulate the needs of the planets in conflict (opposition.) Think of a Full Moon, or any opposition in a chart, as a fight between two individuals - if there is a planet squaring the opposition, that planet acts like a mediator to the planets in conflict. Jupiter in Pisces is responsible for restoring peace and harmony, so there is extreme pressure to perform its function. And that function is to unconditionally allow/accept/love growth and expansion.

This Jupiter square to the Lunar Eclipse also represents a problem within our evolutionary growth, something that is incomplete, that we may have skipped over. That problem has to do with our idealistic far-sightedness and indiscriminate belief systems (Jupiter in Pisces.) In the past, we may have allowed ourselves to put our faith into a belief or purpose that was merely fantasy. We can move ahead and grow stronger by acknowledging where we may have misled ourselves and others, and then offer forgiveness to ourselves for thinking we knew it all. No one can ever predict how life will actually unfold - we may theorize or speculate, but we don’t have all the details and facts...and it is through the facts that we arrive at the truth, not the other way around.

Look for 01°11” Pisces in your chart - this is the location of Jupiter during the Lunar Eclipse - and here is where you are working the hardest to regulate the energies of both the Sun and the Moon. This may be expressed in any number of ways, especially since we’re dealing with all mutable energies, it is highly variable and dispersive. Though, I want you to stay aware of escapist or victim mindsets/behaviors. Jupiter expands, exaggerates, and overestimates; while in Pisces, our sensitivity to pain and suffering is expanded, exaggerated, and overestimated. We may feel a strong pull to escape from judgement, to overextend ourselves to our purpose, or to let go of our morals and behave foolishly or self-righteously. Indulging in mind-altering or numbing substances can also be a sign that your Sun and Moon energies are dysregulated.

Not only is Jupiter under stress, but so is Mars in Cancer at 20°07”. The Sun is beginning to move out of a semi-square (45° angle) with Mars, which was exact the day prior, but had been building in intensity overtime, and the Moon is forming an exact sesquiquadrate (135°) to Mars - two hard aspects to Mars, which produce effects similar to squares. Thankfully, Mars is back within normal limits, after being out-of-bounds from March 21-May 24th, so it’s behavior isn’t as erratic and boundary pushing, but it is still under intense pressure and it’s movements are leading the expression of the Moon - the Moon is then leading the expression of Jupiter, and Jupiter’s expression leads to Neptune, where the chain of energy finally ends.

Anger, resentment, passive-aggression are all signs that you may be struggling to integrate the past with the present. Mars in Cancer fights for the past, history, family, and roots, and you’re likely to resist breaking away from any of those things, even if it is completely irrational for you to stay connected to them. What are you fighting for? Look for 20°07” Cancer in your chart - this is the area of your life that you may be defensively clinging to and aggressively protecting from perceived threats. This is also where you will need to make the most moves to fully let go of the past. Try to replace any possible turf wars with passionate reflection.

Considering Mercury and Venus in Gemini are both out-of-bounds during this time, there is genius potential for us in both our mindsets and within our relationships - we can be both extremely rational and considerate in our intentions; balancing the light with the dark in the most surprising ways. Or we may be extremely non-conforming within our communications and relationships, and unwilling to adapt our thinking to bring about harmony. Either way, we are likely to be doing a lot, possibly in excess, of talking with “the other,” just make sure you are doing as much listening as you are speaking! Which may be hard with the Moon in Sagittarius whose expression is preceded by Mars in Cancer who can be so moody and sensitive. So, if you feel like your actions are not being accepted and nurtured by those in your immediate environment, you may have a disproportionate reaction that is arrogant or presumptuous.

It is so important during 2021 to welcome in a change of values and priorities to our progressive structures. We may have structured our lives in a way that initially seemed advanced, tolerant, objective, and maybe even rebellious (Saturn in Aquarius,) but things are always changing! Our resource needs especially are changing at a rapid pace (Uranus in Taurus,) and we need to re-invent our structures/institutions/regulations so they can properly support the secure advancement of ourselves and humanity as a whole. The way I see this year-long square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus is this: the New Age authority is being challenged to recognize and commit to advanced forms of security and safety. There are new priorities that are forcing a shift to occur in institutions that not that long ago were ahead of their time.

That’s all I have for you today on this Sagittarius Total Lunar Eclipse - Super Flower Blood Moon - my wish is that you learned something about yourself and the world and that it provided you with invaluable material for self-reflection.

Be Well

Best,

Jilly xo
