Lunar Nodes - North & South Node of the Moon

Lunar Nodes - North & South Node of the Moon

Since January, the Lunar North Node has been in Taurus.

What is the Lunar North Node?

One of the most sensitive and important points of any chart - including your natal chart!

It isn't an actual object - not a planet or asteroid - rather, it is a calculation of the Moon's orbital nodes - the North & South points where the Moon's orbit crosses the Earth's orbit. It takes approximately 18 months for the Nodes to move through a sign, and approximately 18 years for the Nodes to move through all 12 of the signs.

The Nodes move backwards - there is always a "Rx" (for retrograde) beside the nodal glyphs in a birth chart. Before the North Node was in Taurus, it was in Gemini, and next Summer, the North Node will shift into Aries.

The South Node is the location directly opposite the North Node - they are always exact opposites. The sign opposite Taurus is Scorpio, so the current position of the South Node is in Scorpio.

The North Node is the energy we're desiring to consume. In your natal chart, your individual North Node is like your North Star - it is a place of destiny that your Soul is longing for.

The South Node is the energy we're releasing following our North Node consumption. It is rich in experience and familiarity, but it also holds compulsive habits that are the root of self-undoing. Generally speaking, when planets cross over your natal South Node or the transiting South Node, a loss of some sort is experienced. The loss isn't necessarily material, it could be a relationship or an ideology. The South Node is a reminder that we are always letting go of something and we should be - to accumulate without releasing is dangerous.

Energy enters through the North Node and is released through the South Node. The ancients referred to the Nodal Axis as The Dragon - the North Node is the Dragon's Head (I like to think of it as the Dragon's Mouth,) and the South Node is the Dragon's Tail (some say the Dragon's Anus.)

With the North Node in Taurus, we're consuming and hungry for Taurus energy.

With the Scorpio South Node, we're releasing and cleansing ourselves of Scorpio energy.

Collectively, we are all dealing with the themes of the Taurus-Scorpio axis - Ease vs. Dis-Ease. Comfort vs. Discomfort. Trust vs. Mistrust. Personal Ownership vs. Inheritance. Stability vs. Crisis. My Money vs. Your Money.

We're going back and forth between the two - and we're meant to be - this is how we find balance within this axis.

During this time, it is important for us to name our deal breakers and honor them. To follow Taurus is to follow the path of least resistance.

Taurus knows what it needs. Taurus knows what feels good. Taurus knows their worth.

Though, with the South Node in Scorpio, we may be struggling with heading towards what is good for us because the Scorpionic pull is powerfully seductive and extremely controlling. With a Scorpio South Node, there may be an obsession with power and aligning oneself with powerful figures or symbols. The Taurus North Node is getting back to basics and indulging in simple luxuries...it is cutting ties with influential forces and focusing on simplicity.

I'm speaking from personal experience - I was born with a 0º Taurus North Node. For most of my life, I often felt like I couldn't help getting pulled back into past habits and finding myself in dangerous situations. It took me a long time to name my deal breakers and to honor them. Once I started doing that, my life completely transformed for the better.

And when I say deal breakers, I could be talking about values - that is essentially what the Taurus archetype teaches us - but I like to use deal breakers because when it comes to the Taurus-Scorpio axis, we're addressing the things (Taurus) that you're willing to give up for another (Scorpio.)

I used to give up everything for another, regardless of my personal comfort level.

The beauty of Taurus is the archetype's slow-pace - when confronted with change, the response is never immediate - it is gradual and aware of personal limitations. Taurus moves at its own pace.
